Nuremberg Colosseum (Nürnberg) photo
Yes, you read that right, a “replica” of the Roman Colosseum (congresshalle) was built in Nuremberg. The construction of this facility was related to the plans of the Third Reich for the city itself.
And there were quite a lot of these plans. After all, it was also here that a place for “show parades” was built. Not much is left of it now, but the place still exists and is impressive. The only question is in what sense.
The Colosseum itself is not a perfect replica. From the inside, as you can see in the photos below, it was finished with ordinary red brick. Only the outside of the building is white – so as to resemble the real Roman Colosseum. Currently, one part of the building houses the “Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds” museum. That is the Documentation Center of the Third Reich Party Rally Grounds (Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelände). The museum was built to look like an arrow stuck in the building.
The facility is a must-see for those interested in the history of World War II.
